Both reviewers have spent a lot of time in domestic and International cities that excel at various regional Indian food specialties. We have found it challenging to find cuisine in this category that satisfies in Austin, but luckily Tikka popped up on our radar…we loved our first visit to the Lamar location and liked our visit to Lakeway.

Lamar:

Our food was amazing, full stop. We ordered the Tandoori Mixed Grill, Aloo Gobi, Chili Cheese Naan and Mango Lassi.

We have been craving legit Tandoori for the entire 5 and 10 years we have lived here, respectively. The color, flavor, tenderness, aroma and presentation of the mixed grill were all flawless.

The veggie dish paired very well and the ingredient quality was impressive. The rice was perfectly cooked and fragrant and the lassi was delicious and thick.

The naan wasn’t impressive, but I ordered the only Americanized option just to see their take.

The inside of this location is very cozy and suitable for friends hanging out, business meetings or date night.

Our server was notably friendly and took the time to answer a lot of questions about ingredients. We were checked on at the right times and left alone the rest of our visit. The music wasn’t to my taste but was not so loud I couldn’t ignore it.

Lakeway:

We went to a second location to see how consistent the quality would be. We ordered the Mixed Grill again to compare 1:1 as well as Baingan Sarafi and another Mango Lassi.

The overall experience here was about 1 point less across the board, except the service, which was great. The manager was very accomodating of a special need we had and the support staff were all in good spirits (sign they are treated well as employees). Nothing was wrong or off per say, we just didn’t enjoy the vibe or the food quite as much. The lassi was pretty much identical to the first one we tried.

It is a much better location choice if you are going as a family or large group.

Summary: This series of restaurants has expanded fast and is really just getting started. Both locations we tried show real potential, with the Lamar location being more dialed-in than the brand new Lakeway branch. You can tell the staff cares about their food and guest experience and seem to be treated well as employees. Highly Reccommend!
